This contract tip is about investing in contract training for your business teams.
Lawyers and contract professionals are all so busy. We run from one deadline to the next emergency. We barely have time to get our job done.
It may not be easy, but I encourage you to set up a training program if you don't already have one in place.
You can do this right now (after finishing this post, of course). Add a recurring meeting each month. It could be a lunch and learn or a morning coffee and learn. If you aren't sure of the topic, just pick a few of my related tips and train on those.
It will help you in these three ways:
1. Free up your time to do more complex strategic work.
You know the whole teach a man to fish thing. Once you train them to do some essential contract work, you won't have to do those things for them.
2. Create goodwill with your internal customers.
Almost everyone wants to learn how to do their jobs better. They will be grateful for the extra effort. This goodwill will benefit you the next time you need extra leeway or a favor.
3. Show your boss your initiative.
Your leadership at work is watching. Many people do the minimum to get by, but others show initiative and do more than required. Guess who is more likely to get that raise and promotion?
Have you had success in setting up training programs at work?
