TL;DR ContractsCon is a commercial contract training event hosted by How to Contract. Past attendees return every year, and many bring colleagues the second time. The reasons are consistent. The training is practical. The drafting exercises make the content stick. The peer learning creates connections that last past the event. The format makes serious contract training fun in a way that traditional CLE rarely is.
ContractsCon attendees come back for the next event, and they bring colleagues with them. The reasons are consistent across the people we hear from.
Here are five of the main reasons we hear from attendees why they keep coming back year after year.
1. The Training Is Practical
ContractsCon focuses on the skills and techniques you need for the contracts you work with all the time. The program covers commercial contracts that lawyers and contract teams negotiate all the time. Our topics include AI product agreements, master service agreements, indemnification, liability limits, data use, termination, and more. We focus on practical drafting and negotiation strategies that reflect real-world scenarios instead of 30,000 foot concepts.
2. The Drafting Exercises Make the Content Stick
Each of our main training sessions pairs traditional training with drafting work. The speaker delivers the training, covering the most important things to know about that topic. Then attendees apply what they just heard by editing a sample provision themselves. The in-person attendees work with their small group table, which virtual attendees work on their own. The format allows attendees to apply the training immediately while it is still fresh. That real-time reinforcement helps everyone retain what they’ve learned after leaving the event.
3. The Peer-to-Peer Learning Builds Real Connections
ContractsCon creates peer-to-peer learning that traditional CLE cannot match. In addition to the small-group drafting exercises as part of our main sessions, our in-person program also includes practical strategy sessions. Laura Frederick starts off the session exploring key issues, asks the tables to work through some specific challenges, and then Laura walks the room highlighting outcomes and conclusions. This format allows attendees to learn about issues and perspectives they would have missed working alone. Many attendees tell us the conversations with peers become the most valuable part of the experience. Some come back the next year specifically to see the same people. The community effect compounds. The longer ContractsCon runs, the more attendees know each other when they walk in.
4. The Format Makes Serious Training Fun
ContractsCon brings sophisticated lawyers to the stage and asks them to deliver the training in character. The substance is serious. The delivery is fun. Attendees consistently tell us that the costumes, music, and theatrical framing make the technical content easier to absorb and easier to recall later. We have high-fives, costume photo ops for everyone, and coming this year, our new mascot, a potato. More on the potato to come!
5. They Bring Colleagues the Second Time
We have consistently seen attendees come back in later years with their colleagues. We have GCs who bring their team to ContractsCon every year, either in person or virtually. That pattern is part of why the community keeps growing. Each year brings the people who have been before plus the colleagues they recruited.
Find Out Why Lawyers Keep Coming Back
If you have heard about ContractsCon from a colleague who keeps coming back, this is the year to see why. The training is practical. The format makes the content stick. The community is the reason most attendees return.
